Fall back in love with photography

“If you do what you love, you’ll never work a day in your life” is a phrase that rings true for many artists. But there often comes a point where the everyday business of creative work can chip away at the passion you once had for your craft.

Luckily, there are a few small but effective ways to reignite your love for photography!

Don’t feel the burn of burnout

Burn out has a way of creeping in when its least convenient. The warning signs are slow to start - being physically tired or struggling to come up with an idea for your next shoot. But left unchecked that burnout can build until it feels almost impossible to avoid.

Creativity can’t be rushed or forced but the everyday demands of work can put pressure  on the creative process. Not every job will be deeply fulfilling and not every project can be a passion project. However, putting in boundaries can help protect your creative peace. Setting aside time in the day to work on personal projects can help keep the creative spark going.

Create for creation’s sake

Not every photo or shoot needs to fit into a category or serve your portfolio. Limiting yourself to just a few styles of photography can stifle your creative process over time.

Take time for yourself to photograph something new, visit a new spot, experiment with different exposure and lighting, or even take inspiration from an artist you admire.

There is no right or wrong way to creating, and you might even find your experimentation helps your unique style evolve.

Don’t let your style stop you

Every photographer has their own style - shaped by angles, lighting, subject matter and locations. But there can be a fine balance between having a style and becoming repetitive.

While your brand may attract a certain clientele, that doesn’t mean you can’t remain flexible in what and how you shoot. Your style isn’t fixed. It can grow and change as you do, allowing your photography to evolve alongside you.
